German business in Russia has “high hopes” for the visit of the Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz (Olaf Scholz) to Moscow. This was stated by the head of the German-Russian Chamber of Foreign Trade (AHK), Rainer Seele, on Sunday, February 13.

“The conflict around Ukraine must in any case be resolved peacefully and diplomatically,” Zele is convinced.

The head of the German cabinet will meet with the president of Ukraine on February 14 Volodymyr Zelenskyiand on February 15 he will hold talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Over five years, German business invested about 7.6 billion euros in the Russian economy

The head of the ANC warned politicians and businesses against severing contacts and freezing projects. Such a step will not lead to a reduction in tension, but to “an even greater confrontation”, he emphasized. Instead, the bet should be made on building connections, Zele believes.

“Even in the darkest times of the Cold War, German business and economy have always been a bridge between Germany and the Soviet Union,” he added.

The ANC noted that despite sanctions due to the conflict in Ukraineand restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, German companies have invested about 7.6 billion euros in the Russian economy over the past five years.
