“Coal case”: SBI denied that the court canceled Poroshenko’s detention

The State Bureau of Investigation stated that the information about the alleged cancellation of the preventive measure against Petro Poroshenko within the framework of the “coal case” does not correspond to reality. It is about the detention that the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv chose for the fifth president.

Formerly “Ukrainian Pravda” paid attention on resolution Pechersk district court from December 29. According to her, SBI investigator Maksym Dzvonyk asked the court to take an unidentified person into custody, but the prosecutor filed a statement to return this request “for revision.”

The text of the resolution does not indicate the name of the person who was placed under preventive measures and the charges against him. But “Ukrainian Pravda” claims that it is about Petro Poroshenko, who is currently a suspect in the case of the purchase of coal in the occupied Donbas.

The State Bureau of Investigation claims that it is not about Poroshenko.

“In order to avoid manipulations and further informational speculations surrounding this criminal proceeding, we inform you that the above-mentioned information published in the mass media is not true, the specified procedural decisions were not adopted,” the SBI reported.

Poroshenko’s “Coal Affair”.

December 20, 2021 Office of the Prosecutor General announced the suspicion of Petro Poroshenko under two articles of the Criminal Code. The former president is accused of “treason” and “facilitating terrorism.”

The “Coal case” concerns the investigation of a scheme for the supply of coal from the temporarily occupied territories and assistance to the terrorist organizations “LPR” and “DPR” by a group of Ukrainian citizens. The proceedings are being investigated by the SBU and the Security Intelligence Service under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office under the articles on terrorist financing, treason and the creation of a terrorist organization.

In September-November 2021, as part of the proceedings, the law enforcement officers already reported the suspicion Deputy from the “Opposition Platform – For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk and to former Minister of Energy Volodymyr Demchyshyn.

According to Poroshenko’s defenders, they intend to deny all accusations. Party “European Solidarity” published a statementin which she called the case “a fake and a lie, which are fabricated at Bankova as a result of Zelenskyi’s personal fears and complexes” and “a technology to divert attention from continuous failures and high-profile scandals” of the authorities.

The SBI summoned Poroshenko for questioning on December 20 and 23, but he went abroad. In a video message from Poland, the fifth president said that will return to Ukraine in January.
