Energy-generating enterprises currently do not cover a quarter of electricity consumption in Ukraine, so emergency shutdowns have been applied in eight regions, NEC “Ukrenergo” reported on Wednesday.
“Power consumption: forecast to be slightly lower than yesterday. This is facilitated by warming. At the same time, there is a significant power deficit in the power system, especially during the evening consumption peak. Currently, generation does not cover a quarter of consumption in the country,” the company said in a Facebook message.
It is reported that emergency shutdowns have been applied in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhya, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Cherkasy regions due to exceeding consumption limits.
“Also, in the area of hostilities in Kharkiv region and Donetsk region, there is damage to Oblenergo networks,” Ukrenergo warned, noting that despite “operational repairs, after each subsequent missile or UAV attack by the Russians on the energy infrastructure, recovery becomes increasingly difficult and lasts longer “.
According to Ukrenergo, more than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are currently unavailable to the Ukrainian energy system due to seizure by the Russian military. This is the largest in Ukraine and Europe: Zaporizhzhia NPP, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vugleghirskaya TPP and Kakhovka HPP. In addition, most of the wind and solar power plants are located in the temporarily occupied territories of the south.
Russia launched strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before the start of the heating season on October 10. During this time, she managed to significantly reduce electricity generation, as well as partially disrupt the unity of the energy system of Ukraine. Because of this, there are some areas where power outages are minimal, there are areas where outages occur according to the schedule, but there are also areas where emergency outages are added to the regular ones.
