February 14 is World Book Donation Day

Date:

February 14 is International Book Donation Day, which has been actively celebrated around the world since 2012. The history of the holiday began with a small tradition in the family of American book blogger Emma Broadmoor, where books were given to each other and children on Valentine’s Day.

Once the blogger’s son asked why there isn’t such a special day of the year when people give books to everyone around them. Emma liked the idea, that’s why she decided to celebrate another Valentine’s Day by giving books not only to her son, but also to poor children who don’t have the opportunity to buy their own. At the same time, the blogger shared the idea of the action with readers, after which the tradition began to develop rapidly, and this initiative was picked up by activists all over the world.

“Ranok” publishing house offers to take part in a book donation flash mob in Ukraine:

“All Ukrainians know about St. Valentine’s Day, but almost no one knows about Book Donation Day. We have an ambitious goal – to popularize World Book Giving Day in Ukraine, to draw attention to the importance of reading and to introduce a new tradition in Ukraine – to give books as gifts on Valentine’s Day. Books are mostly given to children on this day. But our friends, acquaintances, colleagues and just random strangers will sincerely rejoice at such a gift! Today, the book is an extremely important social product, and the support of the Ukrainian book is a matter of national security. It is books that lay down the basic values of the worldview, shape the personality and build a powerful cultural space.”

How to take part in a flash mob?
