Teroboroniv Serhiy Smirnov with the call sign “Son” died on his birthday, March 25, 2022.

He was only 26 years old. On Saturday, March 25, a memorial plaque in memory of Smirnov was unveiled in Irpen on the facade of a building at Poltavska Street, 70.

“From the very beginning of the war, Serhiy together with the guys from the territorial defense, with weapons in hand, defended his hometown and its residents. He showed incredible courage and dedication,” he said the mayor of Irpen, Oleksandr Markushyn.

Serhii Smirnov was only 26 years old

Smirnov played for the Irpen rugby team, attended the “Blagodat” church. Died on March 25, 2022, from the explosion of a Russian projectile near the Romanivka neighborhood during the defense of his native city against Russian invaders. The fighter’s mother, Oksana Smirnova, lost her only son. Serhiy was posthumously awarded four awards.

Meanwhile, on the website of the President of Ukraine, an electronic petition appeared on the awarding of the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) to Oleksandr Pokydchenko from Kyiv with the call sign “Babai”.

A serviceman of the 30th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Konstantin Ostrozky was seriously wounded on February 11, 2023, covering his comrades with machine gun fire in the village of Paraskoviyvka, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region.
