Kostyantyn Kryvopust: “An embargo on the import of coal from Russia enters into force in the EU today”

Date:

In the EU, an embargo on the import of coal from Russia enters into force on August 1 – this measure was included in the fifth package of sanctions, adopted on April 7, 2022.

About these sanctions against the aggressor country earlier reported in the European Commission.

“Taking into account the continuation of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and reports of atrocities committed in Ukraine by the Russian armed forces, the Council decided to introduce a fifth package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia,” the message read.

The agreed package includes a number of measures aimed at increasing pressure on the Russian government and economy, as well as at limiting the Kremlin’s resources for conducting aggression.

Previously, the EU annually imported Russian coal worth 8 billion euros.
