Israel accepted the US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

Date:

Israel’s leadership has accepted US President Joe Biden’s proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army is conducting a military operation after an attack by Hamas militants in October 2023.

As reported edition of The Sunday Times, this was stated by Ofir Falk, adviser to the Prime Minister of Israel on foreign policy.

According to him, the deal that Israel agreed to is not the best deal.

Falk emphasized that Israel is eager to release the hostages taken by Hamas militants during the October attack.

He added that Israel is ready to cease fire only after the release of the hostages.

“There are many details that need to be worked out, including the fact that there will not be a permanent ceasefire until all of our goals are achieved,” an Israeli official said.

It will be recalled that on May 24, the International Court of Justice of the United Nations obliged to stop the military operation on the territory of the Gaza Strip and to suspend the attack on Rafah, a large city in the south of the enclave.

The court also ordered Israel to open a crossing point on the border with Egypt near Rafah, so that humanitarian aid could arrive there.

Despite the court ruling, Israel continued its military operation in the Gaza Strip, and on May 26, the Israeli military struck a refugee camp. At least 45 people died then.

As reported by Ukrainian News Agency, on May 31, US President Joe Biden called on the leadership of the Islamist movement Hamas to agree to Israel’s proposal to cease fire and release the hostages.

It will be recalled that a day earlier, on June 1, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Berbock, proposed to send international defense forces to the territory of the Gaza Strip.
