Jordan will not allow itself to be drawn into the conflict in the Gaza Strip, says King Abdullah II

Date:

King Abdullah II of Jordan told a delegation of US congressional aides on Sunday that the kingdom’s government would not allow itself to be drawn into the conflict in the Gaza Strip. consider the priority is the safety of citizens, reports Arab news.

At the same time, the monarch emphasized the need to immediately achieve a truce in the Gaza Strip and take measures to de-escalate the situation in order to prevent the crisis from escalating into a larger-scale war. At the same time, he pointed to the threats posed by settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank of the Jordan River and violations of Muslim and Christian shrines in Jerusalem.

According to the king, only the implementation of the principle of “two states for two peoples” guarantees the security of Israelis and Palestinians.

The day before, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman AS-Safadi also stated that the kingdom will not become a “battlefield” in the confrontation between Israel and Iran, which the authorities informed both sides. The minister promised that the Jordanian military would intercept any extraneous objects in the country’s airspace that would pose a danger to its residents.

Arab news reminds that during Iran’s attack on Israel in April, the Jordanian military shot down objects launched by Iran that flew over Jordanian territory. The situation in the Middle East has sharply escalated since the assassination last week of the leader of the Palestinian group Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, and the senior adviser of the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut. Iran and Hezbollah have vowed to avenge their deaths.
