The share of Indian medicines from the beginning of 2024 was about 4% of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market, said the president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturer’s Association (IPMA), Dr. Menon R.U.P.
“India’s share in the first quarter of 2024 was about 4%, India is in seventh place in the ranking,” he told the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
Dr. Menon emphasized that, despite the stabilization of the pharma market from the beginning of 2024, “the sale of hospital drugs has decreased because there is still a lot of humanitarian aid in hospitals.”
At the same time, commenting on the situation with the logistics of pharmaceutical products from India to Ukraine in wartime conditions, Dr. Menon emphasized that currently “the route of delivery from India to Ukraine is complicated, as there is no possibility of direct air and sea delivery in the period of martial law.”
“Delivery is carried out through European ports and from there by motor vehicle to Ukraine. Logistics from India takes a long time and is expensive,” he said.
At the same time, Menon noted that large international Indian pharmaceutical companies continue to work in Ukraine through their local warehouses and supply drugs to leading Ukrainian distributors.
Also, Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers continue to participate in public procurement, in particular drugs for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and oncological diseases.
Meanwhile, in the retail segment, demand for Indian drugs for older age groups, stress management drugs and sedatives remains.
Menon emphasized that all IPMA member companies “since the first days of the full-scale war have been contributing to the victory of Ukraine and helping Ukrainians.”
In particular, during the full-scale war, Indian pharmaceutical companies provided pharmaceutical goods worth about $16.6 million as humanitarian aid.
Also, in the first days after the rocket attack on the “Okhmatdit” NDSL in Kyiv, IPMA joined the aid and made a charitable contribution of half a million hryvnias to the hospital’s account.
“Since the beginning of the war, all members of our Association mobilized to help Ukraine without hesitation, donated and continue to donate necessary medicines, financial resources to Ukraine and non-governmental organizations, support Ukrainian citizens forced to leave their homes,” said Dr. Menon.
In addition, IPMA joined the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky – UNITED24 and transferred half a million hryvnias to a special account of the National Bank to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
