In Lubny, a man threw a grenade into the crowd, after which he blew himself up, one person died, three others were injured, it is reported on the website Main Directorate of the National Police in Poltava region on Monday.
“During the initial investigation, the police established that an unknown man threw an explosive object into a group of people and fled in an unknown direction. As a result of the explosion, three people (born in 1982, 1983 and 1993) were injured and hospitalized at the Lubensk hospital for intensive treatment,” said Yevhen Karpets, head of the Lubensk district police department.
He also reported that operatives and investigators established that a 53-year-old local resident was involved in the crime. His lifeless body with numerous injuries, presumably from the explosion of an explosive device, was found near the scene. To determine the cause of death, the body of the deceased was sent for forensic examination.
Based on this fact, the investigative unit of the police, under the procedural leadership of the Lubensk district prosecutor’s office, opened criminal proceedings on the grounds of a criminal offense provided for in part 2 of Article 15, item 1, part, part 2 of Art. 115 (an attempt on life ended by the explosion of an explosive object). 2 Art. 115 (completed attempted murder of two or more persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigators are investigating the death of the suspect under part 1 of Article 115 (intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation is investigating the reasons and circumstances of the incident.
