The former chairman of the parliamentary faction of the far -right “National Association” Marin Le Pen was found guilty of appropriation of state funds in the case of European assistants but was sentenced to four years in prison, including two years of imprisonment, and five years of deprivation of the right to engage in political activity, reports on Monday Le Monde.

According to the newspaper, together with Le Pen in the case, eight other former MEPs of the European Parliament from the National Association were held.

“The former head of the National Association (No), which was found guilty of the appropriation of state funds in the case of parliamentary assistants of the National Front (NF), was sentenced to four years of imprisonment, two of which were conditional and could be replaced by an electronic bracelet, a fine in the amount of Eur100 thousand. message.

As it is noted, this sentence can virtually make it impossible to chat Le Pen’s candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

In addition, the NF Party (now) was fined by EUR 2 million, of which EUR 1 million – a solid amount, as well as EUR 1 million, confiscated in the investigation of the case of assistants of deputies of the European Parliament.

According to the newspaper, the NF case is related to payment from 2004 to 2016 salaries to NF staff (from 2018 – BA) for work in a party from the European Parliament, which is contrary to the Charter of the EP.
