The victim was temporarily hidden in a crisis room from domestic tyrants.
The other day, the 102 hotline received a call from a local resident that her 23-year-old son was committing domestic violence against her. In particular, the husband locked himself in the apartment and did not let his mother home.
“He spoke obscenely to his mother, shouted and threatened. The woman turned to us for help, so after collecting the necessary things, we placed her in the crisis room,” said Ilona Shvets, inspector of the sector against domestic violence of the Shevchenkiv police department.
An administrative protocol was drawn up against the offender under the article “domestic violence”, and he was also warned of criminal liability.
The article is punishable by a fine from 170 hryvnias to 240 hryvnias, or community service for a period of 30 to 40 hours, or administrative arrest for a period of up to ten days.
The police urge the victims not to remain silent about the facts of domestic violence, but to contact the law enforcement officers and specialized services. Psychological help in Kyiv is provided 24/7.
