A resident of Bukovyna was exposed for smuggling the remains of ancient animals to Great Britain

Date:

Under the procedural guidance of the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor’s office, the citizen was informed of the suspicion of smuggling of cultural values.

According to the investigation, at the end of December last year, a resident of the Chernivtsi region, providing services for the delivery of private shipments abroad, organized for the “client” the delivery of museum exhibits – fragments of the remains of ancient animals – to the United Kingdom of Great Britain. As a method of delivery, he used cargo transportation across the state border of Ukraine. The man looked for a driver who has permission to travel abroad, gave him documents and keys to a cargo minibus, indicating that the latter should take the cargo to Great Britain.

Not knowing that there were exhibits in the car, when trying to cross the state border of Ukraine with Romania through the checkpoint “Krasnoilsk – Vikova de Sous”, the driver of the minibus chose the “green corridor” to cross the border, thereby certifying that he was not moving goods and objects that must be declared. However, during the inspection of the indicated vehicle, the law enforcement officers discovered and seized 35 bags with 158 fragments of remains of mammoth, bison, tour, bighorn deer and other rare exhibits.

According to experts’ conclusions, the seized collection is a subject of scientific and museum value and belongs to cultural values.
