At the BRICS summit, the UN Secretary General stated the need for peace in Ukraine

During his speech at the 16th BRICS Summit, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need to strengthen and renew the peace mechanism, which includes reforms to make the UN Security Council reflect the modern world.

“We need peace in Ukraine. A just peace in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and resolutions of the General Assembly,” he said in his speech at the summit in Kazan, Russia.

Guterres also emphasized the need for peace in Gaza with an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the effective delivery of humanitarian aid.

“…and we need to achieve irreversible progress in ending the occupation and deciding on two states, as was recently reaffirmed by the resolution of the UN General Assembly,” he added.

The Secretary General separately emphasized the need for peace in Lebanon and Sudan.

“These were the messages I delivered to the high-level segment of the General Assembly in September in New York. Unfortunately, they remain relevant here and now. Everywhere we must uphold the values ​​of the UN Charter, the rule of law and the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of all states,” said Guterres.
