G7 AMBASSADORS EMPHASIZED THE NEED TO RESTORE THE TRANSPARENT SELECTION OF NEW JUDGES

Date:

Representatives of Simka met with members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine.

The ambassadors of the G7 countries held a meeting with the newly appointed members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, reported on the ambassadors’ Twitter page.

It is noted that the G7 ambassadors met with the newly appointed members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges to congratulate them on taking office and to emphasize our support for their work as an integral part of the judicial reform in Ukraine.

“We emphasized the importance of restoring transparent and merit-based selection of new judges and vetting of existing judges. We also welcomed their commitment to close cooperation with the Public Integrity Council, once it is formed,” said representatives of the Ukrainian partners.

Despite the start of the work of the Supreme Court of Appeals, operational selection of judges is not yet possible

We will remind, on June 1, the Supreme Council of Justice appointed 16 new ones members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges. This unblocked the work of VKKS, which had not worked since 2019. VRP partially paid attention to the recommendations of public organizations, and the Commission included only two candidates who were doubted by public figures.

At the same time, the head of the High Council of Justice, Hryhoriy Usyk, believes that, despite the start of the work of the Supreme Court of Justice, the operational selection of judges is not yet possible. Why, read in the interview “Head of the Supreme Court Hryhoriy Usyk: “The Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court must be reformed, but no re-certification of judges.”

Why did the competitive selection to the High Qualification Commission of Judges become a trigger that exacerbated the confrontation in the judicial community? Have international experts become a lifesaver in competitions for higher judicial authorities and not only? Read about it in the interview Inna Vedernikova with the head of the Competition Commission for the selection of candidates for the positions of members of the Supreme Court Judge Ivan Mishchenko, as well as its member from the international experts Robert Brookhuisen “The placebo effect. What is wrong with judicial reform”.
