Great Britain will help 5 Ukrainian communities to develop development strategies and attract investments

Date:

The project of the British government “Regional recovery” will help five Ukrainian territorial communities to develop development strategies until 2027 and presentations of investment attractiveness to attract donor funds for the purpose of implementing recovery projects, informs the press service of the project.

“Restoring communities is not only about restoring critical infrastructure, but also about development, taking into account the interests and needs of its residents. Local development strategies will contribute to the sustainable development of territorial communities, identify areas critical for recovery, and also help attract investments effectively,” the press service of Wendy De Luca, head of the Good Governance Fund Ukraine, quotes.

The “Regional Recovery” project continues the cooperation of the British government on the recovery of Ukraine, which began in 2022. In December 2023, 10 communities were selected from 487 applications. They received assistance in developing recovery and development plans. Also, within the scope of the project, project and estimate documentation for capital repair and reconstruction of social infrastructure objects for the total amount of UAH 13 million was developed for 10 infrastructure objects, 30 restoration projects were entered into the DREAM system.

At this stage of the project, aid will be provided to five more communities affected by the Russian invasion – Bobrovytskyi (Chernihiv region), Dubovyazumsk (Sum region), Novopokrovsk (Kharkiv region), Ladyzhynsk (Vinnytsia region), Karolino-Bugazhsky (Odesa Region). As specified in the press service of the project, the main criteria were interest in cooperation and lack of similar support from other donor organizations.

It is noted that the strategies will enable communities to prepare for various development scenarios, determine priority directions for recovery and projects to achieve goals. Communities are expected to focus on rebuilding and building educational institutions, rehabilitating rehabilitation centers and water supply systems, and repairing buildings and roads damaged by military equipment or blasts.

The investment presentations developed as part of the strategies will contain a list of priority projects with analysis and justification that require financing, as well as an analysis of the potential benefits of each project.

The Good Governance Fund project “Regional recovery” is an initiative that supports territorial communities of Ukraine in recovery. It increases the state’s ability to manage regional development projects. The project is being implemented jointly with the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine with the support of the UK International Development government and is being implemented by Abt Global and KPMG in Ukraine.
