The Federal Republic of Germany confirmed that Nord Stream 2 “has always been a geopolitical project.

In the event that the German regulator recognizes gas pipeline “North Stream – 2” which does not comply with the law of the European Union, Berlin will not have to pay compensation.

Such a statement was made by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of Germany, Robert Habek, in an interview with the magazine Der Spiegel.https://tsn.ua/banners/mobile-intext

According to him, Berlin will not have to compensate for damages if the regulator decides that the pipeline does not comply with the law of the European Union and Germany. In addition, after the renewal of the certification, a corresponding decision will be made.

“The Federal Network Agency has now suspended certification. When it resumes, it will be decided whether there are conditions for issuing a permit (to pump gas) according to German and European regulations. If not, there will be no compensation to be paid,” the German minister said.

Habek also emphasized that “North Stream-2” “has always been a geopolitical project. According to him, Germany adheres to the agreement with the US in July and may impose sanctions on the project if Russia uses energy as a weapon.

We will remind, according to Reuters, on January 13 in the US Senate rejected draft law on the introduction of new sanctions regarding the Russian gas pipeline “North Stream-2”.
