In the coming days, the Council will consider the draft law on the banning of the UOC (MP) – Stefanchuk

Date:

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk reportedthat in the coming days the parliament may consider final amendments to the draft law on banning the UOC (MP) in Ukraine.

“Just yesterday around two in the morning, we completed all the consultations and this morning the committee reviewed them and adopted the revised version. And it’s a good thing that there was time to bring it to a certain level of perfection – because there are a lot of legal fixes that we managed to implement to make this project work. The worst thing about the issue that society is waiting for is to hastily adopt an imperfect law that will not work,” Stefanchuk said in an exclusive interview with the We – Ukraine channel on Saturday.

Stefanchuk noted that he, legal services and a large number of people’s deputies worked on the draft law together with the committee.

According to Stefanchuk, the amended draft law for consideration in the parliament hall will be of better quality and more people’s deputies will be able to support it.

“This draft law will make it possible to really separate Russia from any churches or religious organizations that exist in Ukraine,” Stefanchuk believes.

As previously reported, members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (VRCiRO) met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, on Friday, August 16. During the meeting, the issues of protection of freedom of religion and spiritual independence of Ukraine, protection of the constitutional order and public safety, human rights and basic freedoms in the context of abuse by the aggressor country were discussed, reports the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
