Kolomoiskyi refused to pay the record bail. Lawyers are preparing an appeal

All day Saturday, September 2, the attention of the Ukrainian mass media was focused on the arrest of someone as ambiguous as Ihor Kolomoiskyi. The court ordered Ihor Kolomoisky a preventive measure in the form of detention for two months with an alternative in the form of a bail of more than UAH 509 million.

The hearing took place in the Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv. Kolomoisky himself came there and told reporters that he did not know what he was being accused of. He allegedly got acquainted with the materials of the suspicions “very quickly, superficially” and does not agree with them.

The trial was held behind closed doors at Kolomoiskyi’s request.

He is suspected of fraud and money laundering. According to the investigation, during the years 2013-2020, Kolomoisky took half a billion hryvnias abroad using banking institutions controlled by him.

Prosecutors requested an arrest with an alternative bail of 570 million hryvnias. It would be record pledge for Ukraine, because the largest pledge is UAH 523 million for Roman Nasirov.

The lawyers of businessman Ihor Kolomoiskyi said that Kolomoiskyi will not pay the bail amounting to more than 509 million hryvnias, but the lawyers are still preparing an appeal.

Meanwhile, Kolomoisky was taken to the pre-trial detention center.
