February 25 marks the 152nd anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Ukrainian writer, translator and cultural figure.
Traditionally, on this day, Kyivans are invited to take part in civil memorial service at the grave of Lesya Ukrainka at Baikovo cemetery with speeches and reading of poems by an outstanding Ukrainian poetess. The event will start at 11:30.
During the day in Lesya Ukrainka Public Library offer an overview of the exhibition of creative works created based on the work of Lesya Ukrainka, which is exhibited in the media resource hall, and the updated book exhibition of Lesya Ukrainka’s works and literature about the life and work of the outstanding writer (in the reading room).

At 2:00 p.m., the Museum of Prominent Figures of Ukrainian Culture will host a literary and musical reception for Lesya Ukrainka’s birthday.
Poetry and music united by the theme of struggle await you. “My weapon, serve the soldiers!”, the birthday girl wrote, calling the word her most powerful weapon.
Visitors will hear the words of poets and musicians, who became their reflection on those events, which we are witnesses and participants of. The poets Volodymyr Osypenko, Dmytro Knyazhych, Karina Tumayeva, Oksana Yablonska-Sevama, and Tetiana Sheptytska are taking part. And also the authors-performers of songs — Valya Zakha-Bura, Viktoriya Padalko, Lesya Roy, Olga Akulova.

What does Lesya Ukrainka tell us today? Birthday conversation
The Kyiv bookstore will host the presentation of a new book by literary critic Tamara Gundorova — “Lesya Ukrainka. Books of the Sibyl”.
Interesting facts from the life and work of the poetess will be discussed at the meeting. They are looking for answers to the following questions:
- How was Lesya Ukrainka and Olga Kobylyanska’s friendship formed and how close was it?
- What was the poet’s relationship with her mother?
- Why was Lesya Ukrainka interested in psychiatry and insanity and in what works was this reflected?
- Which of her works did the writer think about for the longest time?
Tamara Gundorova is a Ukrainian literary critic, cultural researcher, doctor of philological sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The conversation will be moderated by writer, radio presenter and radio producer Olena Huseynova.

Lesya Ukrainka on stage
IN Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka will show the play “Three Loves” based on the works of Lesya Ukrainka. It was created by young actors of the theater for a double date – 150 years since the birth of Lesya Ukrainka and 80 years since the theater was named after the Ukrainian poetess.
The production tells about Lesya Ukrainka’s lyrical relationships with men, namely with Maksym Slavinsky, Nestor Gambarashvili, Serhiy Merzhinsky, Klyment Kvitka. In the play, poems and letters of the famous poetess will be performed by young actors of the Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka. The director is Oleg Nikitin.

The Pechersk Theater presents the play “Your Someone”. The materials of Lesya Ukrainka’s letters, diaries, and dramatic works reveal her true self—an eccentric, strong, strong-willed, happy in many ways woman who loved and was loved. Of course, she struggled with a serious illness. But this struggle was another step in order to break through to higher meanings and discover European Ukraine.
