Naftogaz started importing gas: will it affect prices and how much will have to be paid

JSC “Naftogaz” started importing gas from Slovakia, Hungary and Poland in February, thus the company plans to purchase 300 million cubic meters of gas in just one month.

About this reported at an online briefing, Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko on Friday, February 4.

According to him, both private companies and JSC Naftogaz import gas from Europe. The minister did not say how much they buy blue fuel for, citing commercial secrecy. At the same time, Galushchenko noted that the current price is from 900 to 1000 dollars per thousand cubes.

“Currently, the capacities for import are guaranteed are 50 million cubic meters per day. This is absolutely enough to fill the warehouses,” he said.

As the minister noted, Naftogaz NJSC plans to buy about 300 million cubic meters of gas in February. Such volume of imports can be costly for the company from UAH 7.6 billion to UAH 8.5 billion. “In order to pass the 2022-2023 heating season, Ukraine must import gas, which requires about 7 billion dollars,” Galushchenko emphasized.

It was previously reported that Ukraine and Poland will build a joint gas pipeline that will protect against blackmail from the Russian Federation. Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, the construction of the gas pipeline will make it possible to increase the volume of gas supplied to the East.
