An unknown prankster managed to talk to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain, David Cameron, pretending to be the fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
The fact of this incident was recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Britain, writes The Times.
“There was an exchange of several text messages, followed by a short video call between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and a person pretending to be Petro Poroshenko, the former president of Ukraine,” the agency said in a statement.
“Although the video call apparently appeared to be with Poroshenko, after the conversation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs became suspicious when he was asked about the contact details of other people,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The short call took place “in recent days”, but the Foreign Ministry did not specify who was behind this hoax and how the prankster was able to contact Cameron directly.
The agency said it released details of the conversation out of concern that it could be “manipulated.”
“Manipulations in the information environment are becoming more and more common. Regretting his mistake, the Minister of Foreign Affairs considers it important to draw attention to such behavior and strengthen efforts to counter the use of disinformation,” the message reads.
It is known that during his tenure as Prime Minister, David Cameron repeatedly dealt with the Ukrainian leader, in particular, he met with him at international summits.
Previously, Russian pranksters called to the former Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, pretending to be the ex-president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. In it, Merkel said that the Minsk agreements allowed Ukraine to gain precious time. These words are now constantly used by Putin as proof that the West was not going to fulfill the Minsk agreements.
Putin pranksters nicknamed Vovan and Lexus are also known called to Polish President Andrzej Duda, introducing himself as French leader Emmanuel Macron.
