The Ministry of Defense received UAH 24.7 million by processing precious metals from destroyed equipment

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine replenished the state budget by recycling destroyed equipment, accumulating 1,000 tons of scrap metal containing precious metals, informs press service of the department.

“1,000 tons of scrap metal containing precious metals have been accumulated at the sites of military equipment destroyed during hostilities and in designated military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Thus, 100 kg of gold, 1900 kg of silver and 25 kg of platinum were found in the scrap metal. Its processing is carried out by the Ministry of Defense only through specialized private processing enterprises,” said the message published on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.

In seven months of 2024, the Ministry of Defense received UAH 24.7 million from the processing of precious metals, and by the end of the year they plan to receive at least UAH 18 million more, Colonel Oleg Koval, head of the Office for the Alienation and Disposal of Surplus Military Property, said.

“Funds from the sale of precious metals are distributed in accordance with NBU regulations: 80% for gold and platinum metals and 50% for silver are directed to the state budget, while the remaining 20% ​​and 50%, respectively, remain in the special fund of the Ministry of Defense and are used to meet the needs of the Armed Forces “, the department explained.
