The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine has agreed with international federations that Ukrainian athletes will not welcome athletes from the Russian Federation during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France), NOC President Vadym Gutzeit said.
“We agreed with the international federations, where it is necessary to congratulate during the meeting, as well as after the match, that we do not congratulate each other, do not shake hands. We anticipated this issue and already agreed,” Gutzeit said on the air of the national telethon on Friday.
He emphasized that the main thing is that there should be no provocations against Ukrainian athletes.
According to the head of the NOC, 15 Russian and 16 Belarusian athletes will be represented at the Olympic Games in Paris in neutral status.
He believes that the Russian athletes who were admitted to the Games most likely live abroad, not on the territory of the Russian Federation, and play for foreign clubs.
As reported, the Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11. Ukrainian athletes received 124 licenses to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The Ukrainian national team will be represented in 26 out of 32 disciplines: badminton, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, breaking, weightlifting, cycling (mountain bike and road), rowing slalom, academic rowing and rowing on kayaks and canoes, gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, judo, athletics, artistic swimming, swimming, rock climbing, diving, archery, bench shooting, shot put, modern pentathlon, tennis, table tennis, fencing and football.
The NOC of Ukraine and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine have developed recommendations for Ukrainian athletes regarding contacts with Russian and Belarusian athletes at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
