With the beginning of the war, there was a shortage of orthopedists, surgeons and anesthesiologists – Lyashko

Date:

There is no critical shortage of doctors in Ukraine, but with the beginning of the full-scale invasion, there was a “tension” with the availability of orthopedists, surgeons and anesthesiologists, according to the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

“In general, there is no shortage of personnel in the country, which would be critical for the provision of medical assistance. The system balances and allows redirection of patient routes to provide medical care. But when the full-scale invasion began, we saw a strain on orthopedic surgeons, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. These are all the professions that were mobilized in the Armed Forces and reoriented to military careers,” he said on the air of the telethon on Tuesday.

In addition, according to Lyashko, there is a certain shortage of family medicine doctors in settlements remote from regional centers, as well as in front-line territories.

At the same time, Lyashko noted that in terms of the number of doctors per 10,000 population, “Ukraine is higher than France, but lower than Italy, at the level of the Baltic countries.”
