About this said the fifth President of Ukraine, the leader of the “European Solidarity” party and at the same time suspected of high treason, Petro Poroshenko, in an interview with the editor-in-chief of the Polish publication “Gazeta vabragoba” Adam Michnik. Poroshenko noted that only the united position of Ukraine and Western partners is capable of restraining Russia’s hybrid aggression.
“From the very beginning, I was opposed to Zelenskyy meeting him face-to-face. This is a position of weakness that will lead to surrender. Germany and France participate in the Normandy Format, which emerged in 2014, although de facto the entire European Union participates. Berlin and Paris received a mandate for this from the European Council. We had strong support from the US when the Americans appointed their special representative, Kurt Volker, under Trump. And even earlier, Ukraine was the first priority for Vice President Joe Biden. The EU, the USA and Ukraine worked together and harmoniously,” Poroshenko recalled.
“Putin will fulfill his obligations only when a strong, authoritative and powerful party sits opposite him,” Petro Poroshenko is convinced.
“Today, Putin’s main goal is to destroy this unity. Through Nord Stream 2, because there is no consensus on its topic in the EU. And when there is no consensus in the EU, then the Union does not exist in real politics. Serbia receives Russian gas at $240 per 1,000 cubic meters, Moldova at $450, renouncing a number of important European initiatives. Instead, Ukraine currently pays 2 thousand dollars. Is this the market? No, this is blackmail and corrupt conduct of foreign policy to popularize the “Russian peace”. For us, the most important thing is that the EU buys gas on the Russian-Ukrainian border, because this guarantees the absence of corruption schemes and political blackmail,” says Poroshenko.
He emphasized that the tools of the Kremlin’s hybrid war are migration policy, energy blackmail and interference in elections: “It is not just about interference in elections in the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria or Ukraine. The ways to facilitate Russian interference are simple: it is enough to introduce electronic voting to make it easier for Russian hackers to draw the results. And later lead Zelensky down the path of Yanukovych and Lukashenka, so that he becomes illegitimate. Ukraine needs to draw conclusions from the mistakes of others and not condemn its country to similar challenges.”
