The reason was the violation of nuclear and radiation safety requirements and the impossibility of eliminating them.
The State Inspection of Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine (State Nuclear Regulation) banned the operation of power units No. 3, 4, 5, 6 of Zaporizhzhya NPP due to the impossibility of eliminating the detected violations of nuclear and radiation safety requirements.
She reported about it the press service of the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Facebook.
It is noted that the State Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission took into account the fact that the industrial site of the Zaporizhzhya NPP is subjected to periodic shelling, and the overhead communication lines with the energy system of Ukraine were damaged.
In addition, the production premises of the ZNPP, in particular the information and crisis center, cannot be used as intended due to the location of the Russian military in them, due to the occupation, the operating organization of the SE “NAEK “Energoatom” does not have adequate opportunities to supply goods and material values to the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
“These facts indicate a violation of the fundamental principles of ensuring the safety of nuclear plants as the implementation of a strategy of deep-echelon protection, ensuring a culture of safety, and the responsibility of the operating organization,” the report says.
Violations of legislative requirements, norms, rules and standards on nuclear and radiation safety, permitting documents, in particular licenses for the operation of nuclear installations, were also established.
As a result of the Russian military occupation of the industrial site, the functioning of the physical protection system of the nuclear installation is not ensured, the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission added.
