A commander beat a soldier in a military unit in Zhytomyr Oblast, the SBI is conducting an investigation

For a “duel” with a conscript soldier, the commander can spend eight to twelve years behind bars.

On Saturday, March 11, 2023, a video of a conscript being beaten by his commander appeared on the Internet. During the inspection, it was confirmed that the incident took place in one of the military units in Zhytomyr Oblast on the same day after lunch.

According to the junior lieutenant’s explanations, he conducted an “educative conversation” with the use of punches and kicks due to the soldier’s apparently intoxicated state.

Currently, there is no threat to the soldier’s life and health, the severity of the injuries is being determined.

The employees of the Security Intelligence Service started a pre-trial investigation into the beating of a subordinate soldier by a platoon commander of one of the military units in Zhytomyr Oblast. The investigation was started on the basis of the materials of the military service of law and order.

Preliminary qualification of the offense: abuse of power or official powers by a military official committed under martial law (Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 8 to 12 years.

Procedural management is carried out by the Zhytomyr specialized prosecutor’s office in the military and defense sphere.
