Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has recorded 22,209 casualties among the civilian population in our country.
About this it is said in the report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The report states that 8,317 civilians were killed and another 13,892 were injured.
A total of 17,820 casualties (6,446 killed and 11,374 wounded) were recorded in the territory controlled by Ukraine:
- in Donetsk and Luhansk regions – 9,182 casualties (3,822 dead and 5,360 wounded);
- in other regions: 8,638 casualties (2,624 dead and 6,014 wounded).
Another 4,389 casualties (1,871 dead and 2,518 wounded) among civilians were recorded in the occupied territory of Ukraine:
- in Donetsk and Luhansk regions: 2,910 dead (636 dead and 2,274 wounded);
- in other regions: 1,479 casualties (1,235 dead and 244 wounded).
However, the UN believes that the actual numbers are much higher, as information from some places where intense fighting is ongoing has been delayed and many reports are still awaiting confirmation. This applies, for example, to Mariupol, Lysychansk, Popasnaya and Severodonetsk, where there are reports of numerous victims among the civilian population.
