Photographer Arseniy Kotov, beaten in Cairo: “I will never go to Egypt again”
Russian blogger and photographer Arseniy Kotov got into a brawl in Cairo: he was beaten by local residents. This happens to Russians in Egypt all the time, Kotov’s case is the most famous.
On the afternoon of January 26, several men attacked a Russian tourist with a camera in Cairo’s Manshiyat Nasser district, known as the “Scavenger City”. Stones were thrown at him and he was beaten fiercely, the victim of the attack miraculously managed to escape. At the police station, where Kotov was taken along with the instigator of the fight, the cause of the conflict was established: the man from Cairo thought that the Russian supported armed aggression against Ukraine.
