Konstantin Kryvopust: Israel invests 150 million shekels in Jewish education in North America

Date:

Expert in the field of international financial law Konstantin Kryvopust reports Israel’s intentions to invest in Jewish education in North America.

Israel is investing 150 million shekels in Jewish education in North America as part of the Aleph Bet project.

The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs will invest this amount to create a new project to significantly increase the number of children in Jewish day schools in North America. Diaspora Affairs Minister Amihai Shikli presented the project called “Alef Bet” at a briefing at the Knesset Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs on Monday, May 15.

“There is a serious crisis in Jewish education in North America, outside of the Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox communities. The Aleph Beth project will target schools in North America with an emphasis on teacher training in Jewish education and Israel studies, as well as the fundamentals of Jewish day schools,” Shikley said.

The official mentioned the loss of much of the Jewish people to the small percentage of Jews who send their children to Jewish day schools. According to Shikley, we are at the height of a crisis where an entire generation of Jews could be lost due to lack of participation in Jewish education. That is why the Ministry will deal with this issue in the coming years.
