In Vinnytsia, the book “Buchan’s Diary. Notes from the basement”

Date:

Vinnytsia published the first book with testimonies about being in occupied Buchi during the first three weeks of the full-scale invasion.

This was reported in a release sent to Ukrinform by the author of the book, the editor-in-chief of the literary newspaper “Literary Ukraine” Serhiy Kulida.

“Notes presented in booksis a chronicle of the events that took place in a closed space: in the house, the basement and within the surrounding perimeter of the Buchan apartment building on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Boulevard in the first three weeks of the war,” the release states.

It is noted that, describing the events, the author reveals the “reverse evolution” of the residents of Buchi, “from civilian people who lived happily in a country area near Kyiv, to beings who are fighting for survival and the salvation of their children.”

An eyewitness notes that people are getting used to shell explosions, corpses on the streets, basement life in storage facilities, lack of food, water, internet, and necessary medicines. At the same time, the author emphasizes the psychological state of people who experienced traumatic stress caused by the shock of the war.

According to Vadym Vitkovsky, head of the Vinnytsia regional organization of the NSPU, he met with Kulida and his family on March 14, when they broke through from the frontline Buchi.

“Five tired Ukrainians who have not known what silence, electricity, warm water, clean bed are for a long time and are happy about all this, which we are all used to in Vinnytsia. The editor-in-chief of “Literature Ukraine” Serhiy Kulida with his wife, daughter, two grandchildren and dog Yakov,” Vitkovsky noted.

The book is illustrated with photographs by Andrii Nesterenko, also a native of Buchi, from the photo editor of the newspaper “Holos Ukrainy”. Currently, this is the first book about the events in this city, and, as the publishers hope, it will become a worthy proof of Russia’s accusation at the International Tribunal in The Hague.

Since February 24, full-scale Russian aggression has been ongoing in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people and their armed forces are courageously resisting the aggressor.
