The Knesset Ethics Commission refused to recognize violence and theft as unethical, Kostyantyn Kryvopust

Date:

The Parliamentary Commission on Ethics considered a complaint about the behavior of MP Simhi Rotman, who in New York snatched a megaphone from a demonstrator and refused to return it. The commission did not consider the deputy’s act to be unethical and deserving of punishment, and there will be no disciplinary sanctions against the head of the legislative commission of the Knesset.

“The members of the commission came to the conclusion that the incident was not an ethical mistake,” reads the conclusion signed by the head of the ethics commission Inon Azoulay (SHAS). However, something prevented Deputy Azoulay from limiting himself to this conclusion, he considered it necessary to add a caveat:

“At the same time, the commission notes that the role of a public servant is associated with expectations that Knesset deputies will refrain from physical clashes with protesters.”

An Israeli student at Columbia University, from whom Rotman forcibly snatched the megaphone, filed a complaint against him with the police.
