Mohammed Bin Salman, the heir and de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia in an interview with the channel Fox News announced that his country is approaching the normalization of relations with Israel.
He denied reports that the negotiations were frozen, but noted: “The Palestinian issue is very important for the normalization of relations with Israel, we are getting closer to an agreement every day. If the Biden administration succeeds in reaching such an agreement, it will be the most important agreement since the Cold War.”
He said he would work with any Israeli leadership and, if a deal is reached, “it will make Israel a powerful player in the Middle East.”
Several other topics were discussed. In particular, Bin Salman reported that “if Iran has nuclear weapons, Saudi Arabia should also have them.” We will remind that earlier it was about a nuclear program not related to the enrichment of uranium to the level of weapons.
According to Bin Salman, it is still impossible to use nuclear weapons, it will cause a war with the whole world, but for security reasons and to “affirm its place in the region”, Saudi Arabia must have them.
Salman was also asked about the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which sparked outrage around the world, and he said: “It was a mistake, we have taken steps to ensure it does not happen again. All those involved were imprisoned.”
He also mentioned China’s mediation in the Iran reconciliation deal and said, “We didn’t choose China, but it offered mediation.” He also added that the normalization of relations with Iran is progressing well: “We hope that this will continue for the benefit of the security and stability of the region. Now is an opportunity that must be seized to end the war in Yemen.” The crown prince hopes that “Iran will behave positively.”
Hamas condemned Bin Salman’s words: “Normalization contributes to the escalation of aggression.”
