The National Police is checking information from the SBU about the embezzlement of funds by the management of the Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko during repair work in bomb shelters of hostels.

It is noted that according to the materials of the SBU, in August 2023, the National Police registered criminal proceedings on the grounds of the crime provided for in Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Empropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it by abuse of official position, committed on a large scale or in conditions of war or state of emergency.” The specified article contains a sanction in the form of deprivation of liberty from five to eight years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.
At the same time, according to the interlocutor of the agency, as part of the criminal proceedings, on September 1, 2023, the National Police, together with the SBU, conducted inspections of bomb shelters in student dormitories #14 and 23, during which experts recorded violations that, according to preliminary conclusions, cause losses to the state in the amount of 1 to 2 million hryvnias.
In addition, he noted, for the purchase of materials and carrying out repair work KNU named after T. Shevchenko signed contracts with private entrepreneurs who have signs of connection with the university management.
The publication reminds that the National Police is also continuing the investigation within the framework of another criminal proceeding registered in January 2023, where the circumstances of the purchase of KNU named after T. Shevchenko generators from private entrepreneurs close to the university management at inflated prices.
“Here, too, the losses to the state, according to expert opinions, exceed 1 million hryvnias. As part of the criminal proceedings, examinations are ongoing and witnesses are being interrogated.”– noted the interlocutor of the agency.
