About 70% of surveyed Ukrainians welcome the participation of veterans in politics – poll

Date:

About 70% of surveyed Ukrainians have a positive attitude to the participation of veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war in politics and elections, according to the survey conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center together with the Ilko Kucheriv Foundation “Democratic Initiatives” on behalf of the Chesno Movement from August 8 to 15, 2024 year

“Another 20% of citizens have a neutral attitude. Only 8% of Ukrainians have a negative, or rather negative, attitude towards the political participation of veterans,” says messages of the “Chesno” Movement on the official website on Tuesday.

It is reported that the attitude towards the political participation of veterans among respondents of different age categories is similar, however, respondents aged 40 and over have a more positive attitude. Instead, young people more often take a neutral position. For example, more than 46% of surveyed Ukrainians over the age of 50 have a positive attitude to the participation of veterans in politics, while for Ukrainians aged 18 to 29 this figure is 37%. The gender of the interviewees does not affect the attitude towards the participation of veterans in politics. Also, the level of education, earnings, and availability of a job among the interviewees is not of significant importance.

Regional differences are not significant, but they do exist. Thus, residents of the central regions of Ukraine have the highest level of positive attitude towards the participation of veterans in politics and elections. The indicator of negative attitude is also the lowest here.

It is noted that the language of communication at home does not significantly affect the attitude of Ukrainians to the political participation of veterans. About 40% of the respondents express a positive attitude, while the rate of neutral and negative attitudes is higher among Russian-speaking Ukrainians.

The face-to-face survey was conducted in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhzhya, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy , Chernihiv, Chernivtsi oblasts and the city of Kyiv (in Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson oblasts – only in territories under the control of the government of Ukraine where hostilities are not taking place). 2017 respondents over the age of 18 were surveyed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.
