Zelenskyi and Macron discussed defense cooperation, a new package of military aid, as well as permission to strike Russian airfields

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with French President Emmanuel Macron the continuation of defense cooperation between the two countries, new military aid to Ukraine and other issues.

“On the eve of the meeting of the contact group in the Ramstein format, they discussed the continuation of defense cooperation, the preparation of a new package of military aid from France, as well as the possibility of joint production of some types of weapons”, – wrote Zelensky on the Telegram channel on Friday night.

Zelensky once again emphasized that “we desperately need the permission of our partners to strike at the airfields from which the carriers of UABs and missiles take off, so we count on the unity of the allies in this matter.”

He also congratulated his French colleague on the appointment of the new Prime Minister Michel Barnier, and Macron expressed his condolences in connection with the Russian attacks on Lviv, Poltava and other Ukrainian cities and communities.

In addition, Zelensky informed Macron about Ukraine’s main needs, including air defense equipment, electronic warfare, armored vehicles and artillery.

The parties also agreed on the following contacts, in particular, regarding the implementation of both the bilateral agreement on security and the joint mechanism of the Ukraine Security Compact.

“Ukraine appreciates France’s support in protecting the lives of our people and hopes for further cooperation in order to make the terrorist country answer for its crimes,” Zelensky emphasized.
