Donald Trump, the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party, stated the need for the United States to withdraw from the war in Ukraine, doubting the possibility of victory, and also accused Europe of insufficient support for Kyiv.
“The president and Kamala dragged us into the war in Ukraine, and now they can’t get us out of it… But we will be stuck in this war if I don’t become president. I will get my way. I will agree on that. i will go out We have to get out. We have to get out. We have to go,” said Trump during his speech in Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday.
He claims that the US gave Ukraine almost $300 billion, while Europe, roughly equal in size, gave “only a small fraction of that figure, just a small, very small fraction.”
“We will win. We will win. He has been saying this for three years. Every time Zelensky comes to the United States, he leaves with 100 billion dollars. I consider him the greatest seller on Earth,” Trump mentioned the President of Ukraine in his speech.
At the same time, he doubted the victory. “Biden says: we will not leave until we win. And what will happen if they win? This is exactly what they do – they wage wars. As someone told me the other day, they beat Hitler. They defeated Napoleon. This is what they do. They are fighting. And it’s not very pleasant,” said the US presidential candidate from the Republican Party.
According to the data of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, in 2022-2023, the USA provided Ukraine with $22.93 billion to finance the budget deficit, in 2024 – $3.90 billion, while the EU provided $27.49 billion and $13.05 billion, respectively. At the same time, US funding was mainly grant-based, while the EU – credit-based, albeit on preferential terms.
In early August, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the European Union has provided Ukraine with almost EUR 108 billion ($120.8 billion) in aid.
