The spokesman of the Hungarian government Zoltan Kovach reportedthat the Hungarians will soon receive “Document packages” from a poll on Ukraine’s membership in the EU.
It is noteworthy that this package includes a list of “7 key risks of entry – issues that directly affect the future of Hungary and which must be carefully considered before making a decision”, Kovach said. The list includes:
1) Financial risk: Hungary will become a clean depositor. The EU funds would go to Ukraine, and Brussels wants joint borrowing – to get our country to get into debts.
2) agricultural risk: Ukraine has huge arable land. Hungarian farmers will lose subsidies through EU money redirecting.
3) risk to food safety: Ukraine uses genetically modified crops and prohibited chemicals, which threatens food quality.
4) Risk of security: Ukraine was the center of organized crime before war. Weapons may not get into those hands.
5) Risk of the labor market: cheap Ukrainian labor can reduce wages, jeopardize jobs and pensions.
6) health risk: Ukraine has no compulsory vaccinations that threatens public health through open borders.
7) retirement risk: Ukraine will jeopardize 13 months of pensions.
Voting will start in mid -April. Hungarians must send the ballots by mail until June 20.
