Odesa will connect 10 MW of power for critical infrastructure – the deputy mayor by the beginning of winter

Date:

By the beginning of winter, it plans to connect three more cogeneration units (CSU) with a capacity of approximately 3 MW in the framework of the decentralization of the generation, which began to be implemented in the spring of 2023 and provides for the installation of nine CSU for critical infrastructure with a total capacity of 30 MW, the deputy mayor.

“The implementation of the project is still ongoing. We received the first four cars from nine. One of them, obtained in November 2024, has already worked in March 2025. It is very fast – three months to connect such a machine. Now, after the RAM, we work to put in the end of the year. – She said during the air With the exclusion of NERCEP energy regulator Olga Babiy on the Media YouTube channel.

As Pozdnyakova noted, the city studies the possibility of working such CSU in the electricity market and the prospects of the enterprises to which they will be connected to make money for sale e/e.

“It will not be enough to use such equipment only in the emergency mode, so they started working to use it constantly, and if not earned, at least saving. We learn to work in the market e/e,”-explained the deputy mayor of Odessa.

At the same time, she expressed doubt that “it is possible to make any city as energy independent.”

“Yes, there should be emergency power systems that will be able to support in an emergency, but in general the city must be connected to the power system. Fully consumption, including Odessa, (the city has no generation – Er) We will not be able to cover, especially in the near future. In normal condition, Odesa consumes 800-900 MW. Do you understand the scale of construction? ”Pozdnyakova said.

According to her, the task of local authorities is to ensure the work of critical infrastructure if necessary and for a certain time until normal energy supply is restored.

The deputy mayor also noted that Odesa plans to build a incineration plant, which will also be a manufacturer both electric and heat energy, but emphasized: “All this should be combined into a larger design.”

As reported with reference to the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov, on March 13, 2025, the city connected the first cogeneration unit of 3.3 MW to ensure the operation of one of the city boilers. According to him, the boiler room requires about half the power, so it is planned to redirect the balance in the future to ensure the operation of other critical infrastructure objects.

“In total, nine installations with a total capacity of 30 MW will be manufactured at the request of UNDP,” the mayor summarized, stating that the project is being implemented with the support of international partners from Japan, Norway, Sweden and UNDP to improve the energy resistance and security of the Odessa community.

Posco International (Republic of Korea) plans to build in Odessa thermal electrical central (CHP) on a RDF-panel with a capacity of 12 MW of electricity and 40 MW of thermal energy and a total value of $ 106 million.

In early March 2025, the director of the Center for Energy Research Alexander Kharchenko emphasized that Kryvyi Rih, Odesa, Kharkiv, to some extent, Nikolaev, have the most problems with the prospects of passing the next RAM, primarily because of shelling of the Russians, so they need maximum preparation for winter.
