The new ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary may become the professor of the Uzhgorod National University, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences Fedir Sandor, the publication reports gordonua.com.
Now he is a junior sergeant of the 101st brigade of the TRO. On March 27, journalist of the independent Hungarian portal Direkt36 Pany Sabolch announced this on Twitter.
“[Президент України Володимир] Zelenskyy is considering the possibility of appointing Sandor Fedor as ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary, I am informed by sources from both Hungary and Ukraine (the issue has not yet been finally resolved). Fedir is a university professor of Hungarian origin who became famous for lecturing from the battlefield,” the journalist wrote.
The Hungarian publication hvg.hu writes that their diplomatic sources have also confirmed that the issue of Sándor’s appointment has already been discussed by the Hungarian and Ukrainian sides.
The mass media asked for a comment to the People’s Deputy of Ukraine from the “Servant of the People” party, the representative of Ukraine in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Maria Mezentseva. She did not name the candidate for the post of ambassador, but said that she would like to see in this position a person who “has Hungarian roots and an education in the field of social sciences.” Mezentseva added that the authorities are not primarily looking for a diplomat, but a person who has good linguistic and cultural relations with the country, who has professional experience and is able to conduct serious negotiations, the publication writes.
The decision on the appointment of the ambassador to Hungary will be made “in the near future”, added the MP.
Currently, the position of Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary is vacant. On July 9, 2022, Zelenskyi signed decrees on the release of four Ukrainian diplomats. In particular, Lyubov Nepop was dismissed from the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary. She has been the Ukrainian ambassador to Hungary since 2016.
