The world’s largest sculpture made of steel barrels is planned to be built in the United Arab Emirates. This installation must be bigger than the Great Pyramid of Giza.
The size of the pyramid will be 150 meters in height and 300 meters in length. The project was named “Mastaba” and it is planned to be built in the Liwa desert, 160 kilometers from Abu Dhabi.

They plan to use 410,000 multi-colored steel barrels for Mastaba. They will be assembled in a mosaic in the form of a pyramid, which is traditional for Islamic culture.

The construction of the Mastaba should take about 3 years.
The author of the project is artist and sculptor Hristo Yavashev. He invented Mastaba back in 1977 together with his wife Jeanne-Claude de Guillebon.
Hristo Yavashev and his wife became famous thanks to projects in which fabrics were used. In 2016, the conceptual artist created the installation “Floating Paths”, consisting of 2 thousand plastic cubes wrapped in yellow nylon.

In 2018, a smaller floating Mastaba was installed on the Serpentine Lake in London. However, Hristo and his wife did not have time to realize the project of the great Mastaba during their lifetime. The installation will be created by his nephew Volodymyr Yavashev.

Previously, according to the artist’s plan, the Arc de Triomphe in Paris wrapped in cloth. Hristo Yavashev himself provided the money for this installation. The cost of the installation is estimated at 14 million euros.
