The oil on canvas painting is dominated by a night sky swirling with chromatic blue swirls, a glowing yellow crescent moon, and stars emitting orbs. One or two cypress trees, often described as flaming, tower over the foreground to the left, their dark branches curling and swaying with the movement of the sky they partially obscure.
Amidst all this animation, a structured village sits in the distance in the lower right corner of the canvas. Straight, controlled lines frame small cottages and a slender church spire rising like a lighthouse against a backdrop of rolling blue hills. The glowing yellow squares of the houses hint at the friendly lights of peaceful homes, creating a calm corner in the midst of the storminess of the picture.
