Elections in Uzbekistan are recognized as having taken place – CEC

Date:

More than 47.62% of voters voted in Uzbekistan by 1:00 p.m. Sunday (10:00 a.m. Kyiv time), deputy head of the country’s CEC Bakhrom Kuchkarov said at a briefing.

“At 1:00 p.m., 9,498,589 voters, or 47.62% of the total list, came to the polling stations,” Kuchkarov said.

Thus, the election is recognized as having taken place, since, according to the legislation of Uzbekistan, in order to recognize the election as having taken place, it is necessary that 33% of registered voters take part in the voting.

On Sunday, Uzbekistan will hold elections for the Legislative Chamber of Olii Majlis (the lower house of the parliament) and local kengashes (councils).

1.015 million voters took part in early voting, which took place from October 16 to 23.

About 20 million people are registered in the single voter list.

For the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, elections to the legislative chamber of the parliament are held under a mixed electoral system combining majoritarian and proportional representation. 75 deputies will be elected, another 75 will be elected on the basis of party votes.
