Already this Sunday, one of the biggest Christian holidays will be celebrated. Cultural institutions of the city will help you immerse yourself in the atmosphere.
This week, events dedicated to Easter are taking place at various venues in Kyiv.
MUSIC AND TRADITIONS
On April 16, at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the Kyiv Academic Theater “Koleso” will present a bright musical festival “Vechornytsia”. This performance is woven from the folklore traditions of the musical and dramatic theater together with Gogol’s characters and a delicious treat.
On April 15 at 19:00 on the stage of the National Philharmonic, the Ravisan Chamber Ensemble of the National House of Music will present “Classic Easter” program. Special music will be played, which prompts a person to self-absorption and repentance.
EXHIBITIONS
In the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art until April 17 continues mini-exhibition of Easter eggs from the unique collection of Erast Binyashevskyi, which is shown in the museum for the first time. Most of the works presented are Pokut and Hutsul Easter eggs, as well as from Podillia.
On April 12, the museum will present four collectible icons of the Kyiv artist Kateryna Hryshko (the exhibition will last until May 14). The presented icons are written on linden boards covered with pavoloka and levkas. The works are made in the technique of cold encaustic painting, in which the substance that binds the colors is wax.
It will also be presented here for the first time from April 12 exhibition of Maria Prymachenko’s works “For the joy of people”, which was exhibited in 1966 in Kyiv at the Union of Artists of Ukraine and for which the artist was awarded the title of laureate of the State Prize named after T.G. Shevchenko (now the Taras Shevchenko National Award of Ukraine).
In the Museum and Exhibition Center “Museum of Kyiv” it continues until April 16 inter-museum exhibition project “I call birds from a warm land”. The overarching motif of the exhibition is the image of a bird and its symbolic meaning in folk decorative and applied art: on towels, paintings, paintings, dishes, etc.
In the Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine April 14 a joint exhibition with the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion will open “In the beginning was the word…” which introduces the history of translations of the Bible into the Ukrainian language – from the 11th to the 21st century. Visitors will see facsimiles of the first Ukrainian handwritten liturgical books (the vast majority of which are found outside our country today), old prints, rare editions, clichés, sacred monuments.
MASTER CLASSES
In the Literary Memorial Museum-apartment of P. G. Tychyna is open until April 15 Easter workshopwhere a series of master classes are held on making an original postcard using the iris-folding technique (translated as “rainbow folding”), Easter eggs using the decoupage technique, or felt decoration for a basket (time by appointment).
On April 13, at 6:30 p.m., the quest game “Collect the Easter Basket” will be held here for children aged 6 to 10, with interesting puzzles and a festive master class.
On April 15, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine invites you to an Easter master class “Picture on glass”.During the class, children will not only try themselves in the role of real artists, but also learn about the traditions of the holiday and the history of the appearance of one of the symbols of the holiday – the rabbit. The master class is designed for children aged 8–15.
A festive program was prepared in the “Sofia Kyivska” National Nature Reserve “Easter in Saint Sophia“. The program includes quests, master classes and the educational and cognitive program “Spring cycle of Christian calendar holidays”.
On April 13, the capital’s libraries also prepared master classes for children: in the Central District Library named after P. Tychyny will teach how to make festive Easter decorations, and in library No. 16, Easter patterns will be taught for children.
The museum in Pirogov presented an Easter exhibition and invites you to the celebration. In the exhibition you can see how a Ukrainian family prepared for this great holiday and its main attributes.
