A 76-year-old pensioner turned to the police for help. The woman said that she received a call from a stranger, calling himself an orthopedic doctor.
The interlocutor said that her granddaughter was involved in a traffic accident and is currently in the hospital, urgently needing funds for an extremely complex operation. Concerned by the news, the pensioner immediately agreed to help and told the stranger her address. Soon, a young man came to the victim’s apartment, to whom she gave 40,000 hryvnias and 2,000 US dollars. Only later did the woman call her granddaughter, from whom she learned that she had fallen into the trap of swindlers. At the same time, the pensioner informed the law enforcement officers about the incident.
As a result of a complex of operative and search measures, the identity and location of the intruder was established almost immediately after the notification was received. Molodyk was detained by operatives of the criminal investigation department and police department No. 1 and the Mykolaiv district administration near one of the currency exchange points.
The perpetrator was a 19-year-old man from Mykolaiv. The police seized 120,000 hryvnias from the man, he had already managed to exchange money in US dollars, a mobile phone and other physical evidence.
According to Serhiy Shaykhet, the head of the National Security Service in the Mykolaiv region, the executioner’s actions were directed by prisoners who are currently serving their sentences in the non-controlled territory of Ukraine. The victims’ funds were immediately transferred to the organizers’ accounts.
Investigators of the Mykolaiv District Police Department detained the suspect and informed him of the suspicion. The man faces up to three years in prison.
The court chose a preventive measure for the perpetrator in the form of night house arrest.
Currently, the man is suspected of committing several similar crimes on the territory of one of the microdistricts of the city. His involvement in other crimes on the territory of the city and region is also established. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
