In the Kyiv Zoo, you can see Jako parrots, which grow up to 30-35 centimeters and live up to 50 years. The birds were rescued by the police in the spring of 2022 during the beginning of a large-scale armed aggression by the terrorist country of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by press service KyivZoo. During the war, the institution sheltered about 400 rescued animals.
“Today we introduce you to the Jaco parrots, which were rescued in the spring of 2022. Police officers brought seven frightened birds to the Kyiv Zoo. The health of a parrot depends on the conditions of its keeping. Often, non-observance of hygiene, temperature regime and improper nutrition can cause his illness and premature death. Poultry, as a rule, have good immunity, but even a healthy bird can be harmed by unscrupulous treatment,” the press service said.
Zoo veterinarians and ornithologists rescued the parrots and rehabilitated them. KyivZoo added that these are rather large birds that grow up to 30-35 centimeters and live up to 50 years, and sometimes more. Now, after they have been in quarantine for a long time, they can be seen in the winter aviary.
