Police officers of the “Lahav 433” department in the fight against fraud arrested today a well-known rabbi from Netivot on suspicion of fraudulent appropriation of public money. Several other suspects, including his son, were detained and interrogated together with him.
The rabbi ran a non-profit organization that operated state-subsidized schools. There is a suspicion that the rabbi and members of his family used the money of “amut” for their personal needs. The director of one of the schools was also detained. The homes and offices of the detainees were searched.
The three were taken to the anti-fraud department, after which the world court in Beer Sheva will decide whether to extend their detention.
