Kyiv customs officials found a Bible printed at the beginning of the 19th century in the package

Date:

They tried to send the holy letter of Christians, dated 1819, from Ukraine to Canada without permission documents.

The sender of the package from Odessa declared the Bible as an ordinary book. As the Kyiv Customs reported, the Bible edition discovered during customs control was printed in a large format in the Old Slavonic language in St. Petersburg in 1819 and contains 1,204 pages of text. The book is a Russian stereotypical mass publication of the 19th century (no longer an old print).

The Bible contains 1204 pages of text

The first page of the book states that it was printed by order of Emperor Alexander I with the blessing of the synod. In particular, it is said that the first Bible published in the Moscow state was published with some corrections of the text “thoroughly and faithfully from pre-printed” in 1663. Its main source was the Ostroh Bible.

The book is a stereotypical mass publication of the 19th century

According to the conclusions of the experts of the National Library of Ukraine named after Volodymyr Vernadskyi, like any Bible, the object of examination is of historical and cultural value, and for its export abroad, an appropriate certificate issued by the Ministry of Culture is required.

Such permission documents were not provided during customs clearance. Therefore, the appropriate protocol was drawn up on the sender of the parcel for violation of customs rules, and the Bible was seized.
