Lewandowski helped Barcelona win eight points in the championship

Date:

Barcelona restored their eight-point lead at the top of La Liga with a routine win over struggling Cádiz.

Sergi Roberto put Barca ahead late in the first half after rebounding from Robert Lewandowski’s header off the line.

Three minutes after Roberto was ruled out, Lewandowski produced a superb strike from the edge of the box.

It was the first goal for both players at Camp Nou since a 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on 23 October.

Xavi’s men had chances to increase their lead even more when Lewandowski hit the crossbar.

The Polish forward scored 15 goals in his first 19 La Liga appearances – only Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally in fewer appearances since the turn of the century in 17 games in 2009-10.

Barcelona, whose nearest title rivals Real Madrid beat Osasuna 2-0 on Saturday, have won their last seven La Liga games and are unbeaten in 13.

Their amazing defensive record also continues with their 17th clean sheet of a league season, a record after 22 La Liga games (overtaking Deportivo de La Coruña’s 16 in 1993-94).

Cadiz, who had two goals canceled out by Roger, remain two points above the relegation zone.
